Ideas/Dialogue

go back to Looking Forward

Hello Everybody I would like to start a discussion as to where we are going ? and what we are doing? The meetings being every two weeks is fine but I would like to have an open dialogue on this page so ideas can be fleshed out. This way the meetings can be more productive and we can all focus on what it is exactly that we as individuals want to put in and take out of the situation that we find ourselves in. Let me know what ya'll are thinkin' People. Jpo

Beth Harris updates 8/26:
Great point JP! I absolutely agree... here is one of the ideas that came out of the meeting on 8/25.
ACTION PLAN FOR THE FUTURE OF OPEN GROUND
- What is it we want to do with the Berlin aspect?
- What is it we want to do here at home in good ol Bklyn?
There are already many side projects going on with-in the open ground group. But aside from the Brooklyn Bride to Berlin show, is there any other project that people might be interested in for now or in 2006?
I would LOVE to have in informal meeting (with Jenny and Patrick present) regarding all the additional ideas we came up with during the meeting on 8/25. (I'd rather not list them out - as we discussed).
XOXO

I've been thinking about the future of Open Ground quite a bit and some ideas have been geling.

  • We need to have a way to open up new projects that makes sense.  We're not open to the whole world but we are an open community and right now we don't have a mechanism for new members to join.  I think that's a problem but I like the idea that we've discussed at past meetings where artists would become members of Open Ground, and I think they should be approved by at least two current members because then they start the process of connecting to the community by getting to know current members.
  • I'm concerned about expectations for big projects like the Berlin show.  I do not see Open Ground as a promotional vehicle.  Our work together is an exchnage of ideas and we are all responsible for our own expressions and any commercial aspects in our own work. We are also responsible to respect the artists we are exchanging with.
  • I really want Open Ground to provide encouragement to be a better artist.  I'd like to plan a series of studio visits this year to get back to the core of our mission.

TC! Jenny
