I want to fill folks in on how we managed the studio visits last year. We tried to keep them light and fun, without too much overhead. At the end of each visit, we'd schedule the next one. We're trying to create a casual and supportive vibe.

Hey Emily,

It was great to see your new stuff. You have been working your butt off and it shows. The work is so HOT! You need a show for sure.

Emily!!! What a great studio visit! I really enjoyed the great discussions around your work. The work that really stands out for me are "champion", "pieta",
"respite", and "overcome". I also really love the graphite works. I wans't sure if you'd be painting over that? But I hope not! They are so simple and beautiful as they are.
Also, I was just looking at the "ready to rumble" card, and had a crazt thought that it would be AWSESOME to have larger prints/posters of that made up? with the wording and all. ?? maybe ?? I totally would be an awesome poster to have to sell at your shows!
Well.. I can't wait to go to your next opening featuring all this great work!

I totally agree with Anahita, you need a show. There was a lot of energy and we might even have had some trouble focusing (it actually felt like we were all high on caffeine, I was surprised how rowdy it was!), but I agree with Anahita that your work has made such an amazing progression. You pushed yourself and got to somewhere really different with this work.

I hope you won't take any comments I made in a negative way, I hope they were taken as a suggestion to keep going. I really loved that new one you're working on. The complexity of it was so exciting, the struggle, the contrasts, and of course it had an emotional charge as well.

I think these paintings say a lot about your growth, the bare flesh is particularly striking to me as a metaphor for your openness to changing your process, playing with your "formula," and striking out into the future of your work. It's very exciting!

The new works from Emily looked very juicy. It was nice to see her turn a corner in technique. My favorite thing is how she sounds like an engineer when she explains her process :D

HI Guys!

I don't know why I didn't see these comments sooner, but thankyou so much for all the accolades! I thought the studio visit was great and I really appreciated averyone taking the time to come out to queens and talk about the work. I can't wait to schedule another one in a few months. I'm still settling in to my studio at Brooklyn College, and when I get some new work done I'd love to so another visit.

Beth, I think that posters would be GREAT!
